There Are Seasons

Plants are diverse, some have great growth and produce blooms in the spring/summer season,
others in fall/winter, and still some produce no blooms at all just leaves.

Indoor plants are of the variety that have profuse growth and blooms when day light hours are longer like the Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily), and when day light hours are shorter growth and blooms from plants like Christmas Cacti. (pictured above)

All plants have growth cycles or seasons

Plants need more water and nutrition (fertilizer) during growing seasons.
When daylight hours shorten, less water and fertilizer is required for these type plants.

For fall/winter bloomers they are entering their growth period and need to dry out between watering as they prepare to bloom. Less light still means less water.

This is a good time to check your indoor plants, note which ones bloomed and are slowing in growth and those that are growing and preparing to bloom for fall/winter.

Care for your plants according to their season.

Make Sure Your “Green Thumb” is not Blue!

Thriving, (growing) plants are a sign that you are giving your plant(s) what they need.

These are things you should know:

1. How much light and water do my plants need?

2. How often should I fertilize?

Different plants have different requirements for healthy growth.

Another thing to check is to be sure there isn’t a pest problem that is keeping your plant unhealthy.

A bit of leaf-shine is another perk that makes a healthy plant gleam. Be sure to use one that doesn’t
block air from getting into the leaf pores, plants need air too!

Create a holiday heirloom plant.

I have a Christmas cactus that is about to bloom right now. This plant was my grandmother’s who passed away in 2005. I have kept it and taken cuttings from it for my grandson to have in the future. I am creating a family heirloom plant. Find and keep a loved one’s plant and pass it on to another family member. You may even want to purchase a plant and prepare it to be an heirloom while you are alive by rooting pieces of it for another family member to enjoy. Give it try. Let me know if I can help. Happy Holidays!
